The best seafood dishes in Dayton

The traditional meal consists of seven seafood dishes, or a few varieties of fish prepared in different ways, with recipes inspired by the flavors of Italian cuisine.

Baccala (salted cod) is one of the most popular dishes to incorporate into an authentic seven fish feast.

I may still be waiting for an invitation to an authentic Seven Fish Festival dinner, but for now, here are my seven seafood dishes from local restaurants that I would incorporate into my Seven Fish Festival programming. .

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse

4432 Walnut Street, Beavercreek

My Seven Fish Feast dinner would start with a decent sized bowl of Fleming’s Lobster Bisque. The spicy cream of sherry in which the chunks of North Atlantic lobster simmered is rich, delicious, and the perfect start to a vibrant Christmas Eve celebration like the one I imagine.

The Paragon’s appetizer platter for two ($ 23) includes the pepper-smoked salmon they’re known for, along with cold crab, smoked trout, and shrimp. It’s a great appetizer with lots of flavor in that dreamy dinner scenario.

For my third course, I would go with Oakwood Club’s Fresh Oysters on the Half-Shell ($ 13.95), but if you want them cooked and dressed, they have a really nice Rockefeller Oyster (12, $ 95) to consider.

Kitchenette

613 E. Fifth St., Dayton

(937) 719-0999 or www.afinerdiner.com

Corner Kitchen mussels and fries ($ 15) never disappoint. The broth and the preparations change with the seasons. Currently, Corner Kitchen prepares its mussels in a Thai red curry broth with green onion, basil, cilantro, grilled mango, pineapple and grape tomatoes. It’s a dish full of flavor that would make a great dish at any Seven Fish Festival dinner.

Jay’s Linguine al Frutti di Mal is mixed with shrimp, scallops, mussels and chopped clams in a white wine and garlic butter sauce topped with Parmesan ($ 32). It is a celebration filled with the bounty of the sea and with an Italian name like that, it is perfect for this celebration.

Wellington grid

2450 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek

(937) 426-4600 or www.thewellingtongrille.net

Wellington Grille has a seared red snapper served over orzo pasta mixed with sautéed Brussels sprouts and fresh tomatoes with a lemon butter sauce ($ 23). Because in addition to not being able to eat enough seafood at this meal, we cannot have enough butter either.

Stepping into the seventh course you might not feel like you have it inside you, but Roost’s Mushroom Crusted Scallops ($ 37) with shaved asparagus, ricotta ravioli, crimini mushrooms and a besciamella sauce with white truffle will make you think again by saying no. It is a wonderful dish that is worth the detour.
