“Not So Philly” Cheesy Chicken Steaks with Chef Jonathan Chapin

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Philly can keep its cheesesteaks. Chef Jonathan Chapin gives Reno his own original recipe. For the sauce, he made a concoction of local ingredients from local Verdi distillery and BJ BBQ. This just might be the iconic new Reno sandwich.

  • 2 chicken breasts, cut into small pieces
  • 1 yellow onion (chopped)
  • 1 orange, yellow, red bell pepper (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce from the local Verdi distillery
  • Hot BBQ sauce 1T BJ’s
  • 1T Worcestershire sauce
  • 1T garlic oil
  • 3 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1 serrano pepper
  • 3 pieces of provolone (sliced)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Rolls Hoagie

  1. Cook peppers, garlic and onion in oil until translucent; put aside.
  2. In the same skillet, cook the chicken, adding the BBQ sauce, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper (to taste).
  3. Once fully cooked, stir in cheese until melted.
  4. Place the meat and cheese mixture in the bread.
  5. Garnish with pickles and olives; add additional hot sauce if desired.
  6. Enjoy any time of the year!
