The GOODS of La Mezcaleria
Vancouver, BC | Inspired by a recent trip to Mexico, La Mezcaleria has launched a new dinner menu for fall. In particular, the trip motivated executive chef Mariana Gabilondo to add more seafood to menus at Gastown and Commercial Drive restaurants. The new recipes adhere to the same traditional techniques for which La Mezcaleria is known, with clams, oysters and fish now playing a starring role.
The new dinner menu offers even more fish and shellfish options, with rich plates that are sure to warm you up on cooler days, such as the Ostiones Gratinados a la Mexicana, a bubbling molcajete full of oysters prepared in a white wine cream sauce. Hearty plates are balanced by lighter dishes such as Tiradito de Pulpo, a tender octopus sashimi salad with ginger and coriander vinaigrette, avocado mousse, sun-dried cherry tomatoes and shavings of radish, served with crispy tostadas. A Risotto de Almejas, a creamy Manila clam risotto with white wine and Parmesan, is inspired by contemporary cuisine from northern Mexico. For those who can only settle for a plate of tacos, new to the range is the Pulpo al Ajillo, an octopus in garlic oil with pasilla pepper, topped with onions, avocado mousse and of cream on a flour tortilla.
A refreshing accompaniment to meals, La Mezcaleria’s cocktails are crafted with traditional Mexican flavors and quality agaves to craft complex drinks. A late-night Happy Hour is offered Tuesday through Sunday at La Mezcaleria Gastown from 9 p.m. until closing, featuring small plates and a selection of discounted cocktails. About La Mezcaleria
La Mezcaleria serves authentic Mexican cuisine in Gastown and on Commercial Drive. Dishes are inspired by different regions of Mexico and are prepared using traditional methods with fresh West Coast ingredients. In addition to an array of tacos, customers will find traditional staples such as tostadas, flautas, enseladas, and sharing plates with options for gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and carnivorous diets. The Mezcaleria also has one of the largest agave lists in Vancouver, with many rare tequilas and mezcals that can’t be found anywhere else in town. The innovative cocktail menu uses savory ingredients, such as coriander, serrano pepper and blue corn, as well as sweet and fruity flavors.
Brunch is served at both locations on Saturday and Sunday, and a daily Happy Hour offers discounted drinks and snacks.
