I'm slightly cautious about drawing attention to Steve McCoy's post on Alcohol & Legalism, because this looks like a church discipline issue [edit: by which I mean, when a believer sins they should be confronted privately first, and then failing that, publicly] and I don't know the parties involved.
So, from the otherside of the Atlantic, personally it challenges me again to ask - where might I be adding to the gospel? Where might I be denying my freedom and joy in the Lord? I don't think the alcohol one is big over here in the UK, but I'm sure we have our equivilants...

After some email exchange with Steve McCoy over the last day or so, I think this one is a big issue - and more than just a private matter. We cannot be adding law to the gospel, we just can't. Ever.
ReplyDeleteIts worth digging into the extracts of Finding Joy - Marcus Honeysett is right on the money with this stuff.
