Free ESV Bible Arrived!

A few weeks ago I won a free copy of the ESV in the giveaway by the ESV Blog. Today, on my birthday (!), it arrived. Hurrah and Thanks! It has a rubber cover which is still a bit odd... But kinda cool too! Trendy and accurate... excellent combination!

Previous post on the ESV Blog Giveaway, Rach got her's today too.

  2. That's a really deceptive photograph - makes it look tall and thin when it's shorter and fatter in reality. Much closer to A6 than it looks.

  3. I was wondering when this would arrive! I don't know if mine's turned up yet as it'll be going home.

  4. Congratulations all, a free bible, stylish cover, accurate translation!
    Wow.
ESV seems very popular at the moment, amongst conservative thelogy types: is this because of it's accuracy, or because it's been translation with a certain theological leaning behind it?

  5. Translation panel is fairly broad for it so it shouldn't favour a particular theologican bent.

Basically its the most modern english "literal" translation out.. literal helps you to see more patterns and themes more. But without the archaic language of KJV/NKJV/RSV etc.

And it uses the word "Propitiation" om Romans, Hebrews and 1 John which is helpful - obviously you have to find out what it means but at least its accurate... :)

  7. Cool; I got mine today too - pretty impressive getting it in Ipswich, QLD, Australia that quickly! I love the size of it - brilliant for carrying around - as long as my sight can cope with that size print :)

  8. I got mine a couple weeks ago.
Royal Blue with the archaic-looking cross. I had to go buy a magnifying glass to read the small font.

  9. ESV is small print isn't it... it feels smaller than the NIV...can't beat it for content though!!

  11. Haven't gotten mine yet. I keep looking every day though. This one will go to my fiancee when it arrives though, so it's only temporarily mine.
